Cleveland ISD celebrated a historic moment on December 4th with Day 1 of its First Annual Spanish Spelling Bee, a district-wide event designed to highlight and celebrate bilingual excellence. Students from Cleveland Middle School and Santa Fe Middle School competed across four challenging rounds, demonstrating exceptional skill and determination.
Out of 12 talented participants, Ariela Osorto from Cleveland Middle School emerged victorious, earning the title of district champion after spelling the word, "rodillera". Ariela will now represent Cleveland ISD at the Regional Spanish Spelling Bee on February 5.
Second place went to Gretthel Salazar, also from Cleveland Middle School, who impressed judges with her performance despite not advancing to the next level.
On Day 2, Jacob Gomez of Northside Elementary claimed the win after 38 rounds after spelling the word, "problema". Jacob will also advance to the Regional Bee in Beaumont!
Second place went to Mileny Ortiz of Santa Fe Elementary.
This milestone event showcased the district’s commitment to fostering language diversity and academic achievement. Congratulations to all participants and their families for making this day a resounding success.
Let’s cheer Ariela and Jacob on as they prepare for the regional competition!
