The Counselors at Santa Fe Elementary did an Angel Tree for their campus! Last year, they served 40 students, and had set a goal to serve 100 this year. Thanks to the generosity of SFE staff members, community members, and Communities in Schools Site Coordinator Yadira Mariscal, they were able to serve 140 students!! Amazing!! The City of Cleveland Holiday Parade may have been rained out, but the CHS Book Club's spirits were not! The CHS Book Club's parade float was supposed to be a Santa's Workshop theme. Students were going to bring toys to decorate the float, but what to do with the toys after the parade? Donate them, of course. The CHS ROTC does a toy drive every year to help Cleveland families. This year, Book Club donated a few toys to help in their efforts. The rain may have stopped the parade, but it could not stop the spirit of giving! Eastside Kindergarteners took a field trip this morning to Little Beakers in The Woodlands and they had the BEST time! They got to learn scientific vocabulary, participate in hands on experiments, and practice scone safety when they wore their safety glasses and lab coats. Looks like a blast!! #LittleBeakers #theClevelandISDway

UPDATE: As a precaution, 17 students have been transported to nearby hospitals for further evaluation. District administration is continuing to contact families of those involved. Students that have been evaluated and cleared were taken to CMS and are currently being monitored by CMS nursing staff.

This morning, two of our buses were involved in an accident near 105 and 321. Students were on board the buses at the time of the accident and are currently being evaluated by EMS. There are no major injuries. District administration is contacting the families of the students involved. As with any accident, all students and staff involved are being evaluated by EMS to ensure safety. Student and staff safety is our #1 priority.

Congratulations to the winners of our first annual District Spanish Spelling Bee! On Day 1, Ariela Osorto from Cleveland Middle School emerged victorious after four rounds, earning the title of district champion after spelling the word, "rodillera". Ariela will now represent Cleveland ISD at the Regional Spanish Spelling Bee on February 5. Second place went to Gretthel Salazar, also from Cleveland Middle School. On Day 2, Jacob Gomez of Northside Elementary claimed the win after 38 rounds, after spelling the word, "problema". Jacob will also advance to the Regional Bee in Beaumont! Second place went to Mileny Ortiz of Santa Fe Elementary.

Our CMS NJHS and Mrs. Opps 7th grade Honors Science class were featured in the December issue of the SPLASh newsletter! They had a two day event on November 7th and 8th where they learned about plastics and how they affect marine life. The students also collected trash from the shorelines of Buddy McBride Boat Ramp in Baytown!!
